Course Information
Description General Psychology is a survey of the major psychological topics, theories and approaches to the scientific study of behavior and mental processes.
Required Textbooks Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.

Learning Outcomes 1. Identify various research methods and their characteristics used in the scientific study of psychology.

Instructor Policies

Instructor Policies:

  • Assignment Availability Policy: Assignment Availability Policy: Assignments will be available from Module 1 at 8:00AM to Day 3 ( 11:30 PM.) All assignments scheduled for that module will be due by end of day (EOD) with no exception (11:30PM). Assignments will be made available by module so that grades can be updated frequently, and students can review feedback. 
 
  • Preferred Method of Contact: Please email me at hernandezea@lamarpa.edu from your LSCPA email address. During working hours, it is the quickest way to reach me, and I will respond within 24 hours between Monday-Friday. Emails sent over the weekend will be addressed the following Monday. Do NOT use your personal email address as those will be filtered as SPAM. You will also include a subject line.
 
  • Make-up Work Policy: Late work will NOT be accepted with the only exception being documented emergencies. If such an emergency occurs, contact the instructor immediately and be prepared to provide relevant documentation. Otherwise, complete all assignments the week they are assigned by or on the required due date. Missed assignments are assigned a grade of 0.
 
  • Missed Assignment Extension Policy: Missed assignments are considered LATE. See the
Make-up Work Policy above. “Technical Difficulties” or “Blackboard not working”
are not acceptable excuses (unless there is a CAMPUS WIDE outage). If you request an extension due to technical difficulties, you need to send me the following” 1) an email describing the problem a minimum of 24 hours before the assignment is due 2) A forwarded Help Desk ticket with a ticket #. If you are unable to email these requirements, consider the assignment LATE. Late assignments are assigned a grade of 0.
 
  • Acceptable File Formats for Assignments: I will NOT accept assignments via email. There is an increased risk of getting viruses by downloading attachments. All assignments MUST be submitted in BlackBoard. BlackBoard is compatible with doc, docx, rtf, and pdf file formats. Do NOT submit Google Docs or Pages formatted assignments. Assignments in those formats will receive a 0. I will assign a 0 and leave a comment to submit the correct file format. I will not chase you down for your assignments beyond that.
 
  • BLACKBOARD Calendar – follow the calendar provided by the instructor, not the one in in Blackboard. If there is any discrepancy with due dates in Blackboard and the Course Schedule, adhere to the instructor provided schedule.
  • I am NOT Technical Support - "Do not send technical support questions to the instructor. Contact the Blackboard 24/7 helpdesk at: 936-496-5378.” Please understand that my capabilities are opening and closing assignments. If you do not see assignments and it is past the due date, it is because the due date has passed. 
  • Generative AI Warning: Students are expected to complete their assignments using their own knowledge and skills, without the assistance of AI generative tools. The use of such tools, including but not limited to language models and other automated writing software, is strictly prohibited. Any violation of this policy will result in a penalty, up to and including a failing grade for the assignment and/or the course. See above that have expertise in machine learning and and data analytics and be aware I can program in languages such as Python (which is what many generative AI softwares use). I have experience in creating these models myself and have done my programming and coding to create AI models. Please do not be that person that makes me commute to Orange to arrange a meeting with the Dean for an academic integrity violation.

COVID 19 Information The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition directly to their local health department. Students should also contact their course faculty to report their quarantine status. In addition, this policy requires all students to wear face coverings when directly exposed to COVID 19 in compliance with the criteria included in the policy. Facility Policies No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
